Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I need a building permit for my renovation?
In Canada, most structural changes, additions, or major plumbing and electrical work require a municipal building permit. We can assist you in determining if your project needs one and help guide you through the application process with your local building department.
2. Are you covered by WSIB and liability insurance?
Yes. Rhino The Renovators is fully insured with comprehensive general liability coverage and is in good standing with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB). This ensures you are protected from liability in the event of an accident on your property.
3. How do you handle HST/GST?
As a registered Canadian business, we include applicable Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) or GST/PST on all invoices. We provide clear, itemized quotes so you know exactly what the tax implications are for your project.
4. What is a “cooling-off” period?
Under provincial consumer protection laws (like Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act), if you sign a contract in your home for more than a certain amount, you have a legal right to a 10-day cooling-off period. During this time, you can cancel the contract for any reason without penalty.
5. Can you work through a Canadian winter?
While some exterior work like landscaping or masonry is weather-dependent, most interior renovations can be performed year-round. We take extra care to protect your home from the cold and salt during the winter months.
6. Do you follow the National Building Code of Canada?
Absolutely. All our work is performed to meet or exceed the National Building Code of Canada and local municipal bylaws to ensure the safety and longevity of your renovation.
7. How are payments scheduled?
We follow a milestone-based payment schedule. You will never be asked to pay the full amount upfront. Typically, this includes a small deposit, followed by progress payments as specific stages of the project are completed and inspected.
