Custom Stone Interlocking Retaining Walls & Flower Beds in Toronto & GTA
Natural stone craftsmanship engineered to outlast Ontario winters — no concrete, no compromise.
GTA Excellence
Why Homeowners Choose Stone
Interlocking Over Concrete
Unlike stamped or plain concrete, our interlocking installations use individual natural and manufactured stone pavers — no poured concrete surface.
Each stone is independently set on a precision-engineered base, which means they flex naturally with Ontario's extreme freeze-thaw cycles instead of cracking under pressure. If a stone ever shifts or gets damaged years down the road, it can be individually lifted and reset — something that is simply impossible with a concrete driveway.
This is why stone interlocking consistently outlasts concrete in the Canadian climate and adds significantly more long-term value to your property.
Rhino The Renovators has been installing premium stone interlocking driveways, walkways, patios, retaining walls and flower beds across the GTA for over 12 years. Our team specializes in high-durability hardscaping that balances structural integrity with curb appeal.
Every project starts with deep excavation and a multi-layer compacted base — the foundation that separates a 5-year driveway from a 25-year one. Every project includes a free on-site consultation and a fully itemized written quote.

Frequently Asked Questions About Stone Interlocking
We believe in transparency. Here are the most common questions our GTA clients ask about our decorative concrete installations and maintenance.
Q: How long does stone interlocking last in the Ontario climate?
- A: When installed with a properly engineered multi-layer compacted base, stone interlocking can last 25 to 30 years in the GTA climate. The key is the base preparation — not the stones themselves. This is exactly where we invest the most time on every project.
Q: What is the difference between interlocking and stamped concrete?
- A: Stamped concrete is a single poured surface with a decorative pattern pressed into it. Interlocking uses individual stone pavers set on a compacted base with no poured concrete on the surface. Interlocking handles Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles better because individual stones flex and shift independently rather than cracking as one solid slab.
Q: Will the stones sink or shift over time?
- A: Only if the base was not built correctly. Our multi-layer mechanically compacted gravel base is specifically engineered to prevent settling. We have projects from 10 years ago that are still perfectly level because the base was done right from day one.
Q: Can interlocking be repaired if a stone gets damaged?
- A: Yes — this is one of the biggest advantages over concrete. If a stone ever gets damaged or shifts, it can be individually lifted, the base re-leveled, and the stone reset. With poured concrete, a crack means grinding or replacing an entire section.
Q: Do you handle both the interlocking and the retaining wall in the same project?
- A: Absolutely. In fact, most of our clients combine interlocking driveways or patios with retaining walls and flower beds in a single project. One crew handles everything from excavation to final cleanup, which saves time and ensures all the elements look cohesive.
Q: How do I maintain my interlocking after installation?
- A: Interlocking is very low maintenance. We recommend reapplying polymeric sand to the joints every 3 to 5 years as it gradually washes away. Avoid using sharp metal shovels for snow removal — a plastic shovel or snow blower will protect the stone surface through the winter.
